Martha Bergstein Marcom
Martha Bergstein Marcom, co-founder of Yoga on High, has entered her final Savasana. Martha was a passionate teacher and yogi, and we know that her lessons of caring and joy filled many people with the incredible wonder that she felt for life. She was a lifelong community leader and heartfelt supporter of many progressive causes. Her smile reflected the love and beauty that she carried both inside and out. Her life is celebrated by Gerard “Jerry” Marcom, her husband of 39 years; children, Mara (Steve) Christine, Colin Marcom, and Mimi (Michael) Flynn; granddaughter, Maggie; mother, Mary Bergstein; sister, Connie (Buzz) Dow; brother, David (Margaret) Bergstein; and numerous other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Frank Bergstein and brother Tom Bergstein.

A memorial celebration will take place Sunday, May 21, at The Boat House at Confluence Park, 679 W. Spring Street, Columbus, OH 43215. There will be a reception from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., and a service from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to take some time to enjoy life and time with friends and family. Martha Marcom Memorial Morning Mysore Practice, Tuesday, May 9, 5:00a to 8:00a with invocation and a very few words at 6:00a.  Practice will be held at the Yoga on High Teacher Training Institute (TTI), 1020 Dennison Ave on the corner of Dennison and W. Starr.  Martha believed in Morning Mysore as the best way to practice Ashtanga Yoga and worked hard to start and keep the Yoga on High program alive. For those of you who value this practice we invite you to come together on this day to honor her role in bringing Ashtanga Yoga to Columbus.

Chanting 108 Om Tryumbakums, Wednesday, May 10, 5:45p. Held at the Yoga on High Teacher Training Institute (TTI), 1020 Dennison Ave on the corner of Dennison and W. Starr. Chanting this sacred mantra is a powerful ritual we perform at the death of our beloveds.  As we honor the life and death of our friend and teacher Martha, this chant also helps to free us of our own fear of death. If you don’t know the chant at the beginning of the 108 you will certainly know it by the end!  It is listed here if you want to practice in advance. (Printed copies will be handed out on May 10.)

There is no charge for these events.  Please let us know if you are attending.  Click here to pre-register for Chanting 108 Om Tryumbakums and click here for Martha Marcom Memorial Morning Mysore Practice.
